It is narrated from Hazrat Fatimah bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her) that my husband Abu Amr bin Hafs bin Mughirah one day sent me a message of divorce and along with it sent five saa’ of barley. I said: I have nothing else for my expenses except this, and can I spend my ‘iddah in your house? He said: No. Hearing this, I gathered my clothes and then presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned the whole incident. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “How many divorces did he give you?” I replied: Three divorces. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “He has spoken the truth, you will not receive any maintenance and you should spend your ‘iddah in the house of your paternal cousin Ibn Umm Maktum, because his eyesight is very weak, you may even remove your headscarf in front of him. When your ‘iddah is over, inform me.” After the ‘iddah, several people sent me proposals of marriage, among them were Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Abu Jahm (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Muawiyah is poor and has no wealth, while Abu Jahm beats women (he is harsh in nature), but you should marry Usamah bin Zaid.”
