حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ , عَنْ صَالِحٍ أَبِي حُجَيْرٍ , عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حُدَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : وَكَانَتْ لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ , قَالَ : " مَنْ غَسَّلَ مَيِّتًا , وَكَفَّنَهُ , وَتَبِعَهُ وَوَلِيَ جُثَّتَهُ , رَجَعَ مَغْفُورًا لَهُ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ ، قَالَ أَبِي : لَيْسَ بِمَرْفُوعٍ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), "who was honored with the companionship of the Prophet," that whoever bathes a deceased person, shrouds him, accompanies him, and remains present until the burial, will return forgiven. (This hadith is not marfu‘.)
