It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Shurayh Khuzai (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should treat his neighbor well, and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his guest with what is due. The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is meant by "what is due"? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hospitality is for three days, and 'what is due' (special hospitality) is for one day and night. Whatever is beyond that is charity. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent. And it is not permissible for a person to stay with someone so long that he makes him sinful."
