A woman from Banu Ghifar says that I, along with some women from Banu Ghifar, presented ourselves before the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! We also wish to participate with you in this expedition (the Battle of Khaybar) so that we may, according to our ability, treat the sick and help the Muslims. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Certainly, upon the blessing of Allah." Thus, we set out with the Prophet (peace be upon him). Since I was a young girl at that time, the Prophet (peace be upon him) seated me on the elevated part of his camel's saddle. In the morning, the Prophet (peace be upon him) dismounted from his ride and made his camel kneel down. When I began to get down from the saddle, I saw blood on it; this was the first menstrual blood I had experienced. Seeing this, I shrank back close to the camel and felt shy. The Prophet (peace be upon him), seeing my condition and the blood, said: "What has happened? Perhaps your menstruation has started?" I replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Take care of yourself, and take a vessel of water, add salt to it, and wash off the blood from the saddle, then mount your ride again." Then, when Khaybar was conquered by the hands of the Prophet (peace be upon him), he also gave us some of the spoils of war, and this necklace that you see around my neck, the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave it to me and placed it around my neck with his blessed hand. By Allah! This necklace will never be separated from me. Thus, it remained around her neck until her death, and she had willed that the necklace be buried with her. Whenever she performed the purification bath, she would always add salt to it, and she had willed that when she died, salt should be added to the water used for her bath.
