It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Ruman (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the mother of Hazrat Aisha, that she said: I and Aisha were sitting when an Ansari woman came and said, "May Allah do such and such with so-and-so" (meaning her son). I asked her the reason, so she said that her son was also among those who were spreading rumors. I asked: What kind of rumors? She told the whole detail. So Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: Has Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) also heard these things? She said: Yes. She asked: Has the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also heard? She said: Yes! (Aisha) fainted and fell down, and she had a very high fever. I covered her with sheets. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came and asked: What happened to her? I said: O Messenger of Allah! She has a very high fever. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Perhaps because of those things which are going on." I said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! During this, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) raised her head and said: If I declare myself free from fault before you, you will not believe it, and if I confess to a sin before you (and Allah is witness that I am free from it), you will consider me truthful. By Allah! I find no example for myself and you except that of Hazrat Yaqub (peace be upon him), he said, «فصبر جميل والله المستعان على ما تصفون» When her innocence was revealed, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to her and informed her of it, so she said: For this, I only thank Allah, not anyone else.
