حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ الْحَدَّادُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ فَرُّوخٍ أَبُو بَكَّارٍ ، أَنَّ أَبَا الْمَلِيحِ خَرَجَ عَلَى جَنَازَةٍ ، فَلَمَّا اسْتَوَى ، ظَنُّوا أَنَّهُ يُكَبِّرُ ، فَالْتَفَتَ ، فَقَالَ : اسْتَوُوا لِتَحْسُنَ شَفَاعَتُكُمْ ، فَإِنِّي لَوْ اخْتَرْتُ رَجُلًا لَاخْتَرْتُ هَذَا ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلِيطٍ , عَنْ إِحْدَى أُمَّهَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَهِيَ مَيْمُونَةُ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يُصَلِّي عَلَيْهِ أُمَّةٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ ، إِلَّا شُفِّعُوا فِيهِ " , قَالَ : فَسَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْمَلِيحِ ، عَنِ الْأُمَّةِ ، فَقَالَ : أَرْبَعُونَ.
Abu Bakr says that once I offered the funeral prayer behind Abu al-Malih. He said, "Straighten the rows and intercede for him in a good manner. If I were to like any man, I would have liked this deceased." Then he narrated from his chain the narration of Hazrat Maymunah that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "If a group offers the funeral prayer for a Muslim, their intercession is accepted for him." Abu al-Malih says that by "group" is meant forty to a hundred or even more people.
