It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Zuhr prayer. That day, some wealth had arrived from somewhere, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down to distribute it until the muezzin began to call the adhan for Asr. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Asr prayer and came to my house because it was my turn that day, and he performed two short rak'ahs at my place. Upon this, I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what are these two rak'ahs that you have been commanded to perform?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "No, rather these are the rak'ahs that I used to perform after Zuhr, but I became so occupied with the distribution of wealth that the muezzin came to inform me of the Asr prayer. I did not consider it appropriate to leave them (so I performed them now)." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Can we also make up for them?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "No."
