حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَي ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ , وَيَزِيدُ , قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ ابْنَةِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذُيُولِ النِّسَاءِ ؟ فَقَالَ : " شِبْرًا " , فَقُلْتُ : إِذَنْ تَخْرُجَ أَقْدَامُهُنَّ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " فَذِرَاعٌ ، لَا تَزِدْنَ عَلَيْهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that I submitted in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, "O Messenger of Allah, how much should women let their garments hang down?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "You may let it hang down by one span." I said, "In that case, their shins will be exposed?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then let it hang down by one cubit, but no more than that."
