Hadith 26618

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّكُمْ تَحْتَكِمُونَ إِلَيَّ ، وَإِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ ، وَلَعَلَّ بَعْضَكُمْ أَنْ يَكُونَ أَلْحَنَ بِحُجَّتِهِ مِنْ بَعْضٍ ، وَإِنَّمَا أَقْضِي بَيْنَكُمْ عَلَى نَحْوِ مَا أَسْمَعُ ، فَمَنْ قَضَيْتُ لَهُ مِنْ حَقِّ أَخِيهِ شَيْئًا ، فَلَا يَأْخُذْهُ ، فَإِنَّمَا أَقْطَعُ لَهُ قِطْعَةً مِنَ النَّارِ يَأْتِي بِهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You bring your disputes to me, and it is possible that one of you may present his argument with such eloquence and clarity compared to the other that I may decide in his favor based on what I hear. (Therefore, remember) if I decide in someone's favor, accepting his statement, and thus grant him something that rightfully belongs to his brother, then let him know that I am cutting a piece of fire for him and giving it to him. So he should not take it.
