حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شَقِيقٌ , وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِذَا حَضَرْتُمْ الْمَرِيضَ أَوْ الْمَيِّتَ فَقُولُوا خَيْرًا ، فَإِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تُؤَمِّنُ عَلَى مَا تَقُولُونَ " , قَالَتْ : فَلَمَّا مَاتَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ , قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، كَيْفَ أَقُولُ ؟ قَالَ : " قُولِي اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلَهُ ، وَأَعْقِبْنِي مِنْهُ عُقْبَى حَسَنَةً " , وَقَالَ ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ : " صَالِحَةً " , قَالَتْ : فَأَعْقَبَنِي اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مِنْهُ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you go to someone who is near death or ill, then pray for good for him, because the angels say Ameen to your supplication. When Hazrat Abu Salamah passed away, I went to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, Abu Salamah has passed away." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You should make this supplication: "O Allah, forgive me and him, and grant me a better substitute than him." I made this supplication, so Allah granted me a better substitute in the form of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself.
