حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ مَمْلَكٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِاللَّيْلِ وَقِرَاءَتِهِ , قَالَتْ : مَا لَكُمْ وَلِصَلَاتِهِ وَلِقِرَاءَتِهِ ؟ قَدْ كَانَ : " يُصَلِّي قَدْرَ مَا يَنَامُ ، وَيَنَامُ قَدْرَ مَا يُصَلِّي ، وَإِذَا هِيَ تَنْعَتُ قِرَاءَتَهُ ، فَإِذَا قِرَاءَةٌ مُفَسَّرَةٌ حَرْفًا حَرْفًا .
Ya'la bin Mamlak says that I asked Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) about the night prayer and recitation of the Prophet (peace be upon him), so she said: "Where are you and where is the prayer and recitation of the Prophet (peace be upon him)? The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to pray for as long as he slept, and he used to sleep for as long as he prayed. Then, regarding the manner of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) recitation, she described that it was with clarity of each and every letter."
