Narrated from Hazrat Hafsa that once the Prophet (peace be upon him) was sitting with his clothes gathered and placed over his thighs, when Hazrat Abu Bakr came and sought permission. The Prophet (peace be upon him) granted him permission and remained seated in the same manner. Then Hazrat Umar, then Hazrat Ali, and other companions came one after another, but the Prophet (peace be upon him) continued to sit in the same state. After a little while, Hazrat Uthman came and sought permission. The Prophet (peace be upon him) granted him permission and covered his legs with his garment. They all sat for a while, conversed, and then left. After they had gone, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr, Umar, Ali, and other companions came to you, but you remained seated in the same manner. When Hazrat Uthman came, you covered your legs with your garment." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Should I not show modesty to the one before whom even the angels show modesty?"
