حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ صَفِيَّةَ ابْنَةَ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ أَخْبَرَتْهُ , أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ حَفْصَةَ ابْنَةَ عُمَرَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تُحَدِّثُ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا يَحِلُّ لِامْرَأَةٍ تُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ أَوْ بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ , أَنْ تُحِدَّ عَلَى مَيِّتٍ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ إِلَّا عَلَى زَوْجٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hafsa that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day (or Allah and His Messenger) to mourn for any deceased person other than her husband for more than three days. (However, for her husband, she will observe mourning for four months and ten days.)
