حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي , عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ رُومَانَ , عَنْ عُرْوَةَ , عَنْ عَائِشَةَ , قَالَتْ : أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْقَتْلَى أَنْ يُطْرَحُوا فِي الْقَلِيبِ , فَطُرِحُوا فِيهِ , إِلَّا مَا كَانَ مِنْ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ خَلَفٍ , فَإِنَّهُ انْتَفَخَ فِي دِرْعِهِ فَمَلَأَهَا , فَذَهَبُوا يُحَرِّكُوهُ , فَتَزَايَلَ , فَأَقَرُّوهُ وَأَلْقَوْا عَلَيْهِ مَا غَيَّبَهُ مِنَ التُّرَابِ وَالْحِجَارَةِ , فَلَمَّا أَلْقَاهُمْ فِي الْقَلِيبِ , وَقَفَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقَالَ : " يَا أَهْلَ الْقَلِيبِ , هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا ؟ فَإِنِّي قَدْ وَجَدْتُ مَا وَعَدَنِي رَبِّي حَقًّا ؟ " قال : فَقَالَ لَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , أَتُكَلِّمُ قَوْمًا مَوْتَى ؟ ! قَالَ : فَقَالَ لَهُمْ : " لَقَدْ عَلِمُوا أَنَّ مَا وَعَدْتُهُمْ حَقٌّ " , قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : وَالنَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ : لَقَدْ سَمِعُوا مَا قُلْتَ لَهُمْ ، وَإِنَّمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَقَدْ عَلِمُوا " .
Narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that regarding the slain of Quraysh in the Battle of Badr, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that they be thrown into a pit, so they were thrown in, except for Umayyah bin Khalaf, whose body had swollen in his armor. The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) tried to move him but faced difficulty, so they left him there and covered him with earth and stones, etc. After throwing the rest into the pit, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood by them and said, "O people of the well! Did you find what your Lord promised you to be true? For I have found my Lord's promise to be true." The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "O Messenger of Allah! Are you speaking to the dead?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "By Allah, they know that I made a true promise to them." Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that they know, and people say that they do not hear.
