حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي , عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ , ، كلاهما ، حَدَّثَنِي عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ , عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً بِرَكْعَتَيْهِ بَعْدَ الْفَجْرِ قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً مِنَ اللَّيْلِ , سِتٌّ مِنْهُنَّ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى , وَيُوتِرُ بِخَمْسٍ لَا يَقْعُدُ فِيهِنَّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray thirteen rak'ahs at night. Out of these, six rak'ahs were prayed two at a time, and the remaining five were made witr together, and he would end with salam while sitting.
