It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would become ill, he would recite the Mu'awwidhatayn and blow over himself. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was afflicted with the illness of his final days, I would hold his blessed hand and recite these words, then pass his hand over his body, so that the blessing of his hand might be obtained.
