حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا وَائِلٌ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْبَهِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ : " مَا بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَيْدَ بْنَ حَارِثَةَ فِي جَيْشٍ قَطُّ إِلَّا أَمَّرَهُ عَلَيْهِمْ , وَإِنْ بَقِيَ بَعْدَهُ اسْتَخْلَفَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Hazrat Zaid bin Harithah with an army, he appointed him as the commander of that army: If he had lived after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would have appointed him as his successor.
