حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ وَعَفَّانُ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ , عَنْ أُمِّ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُكْثِرُ أَنْ يَقُولَ : " يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ وَطَاعَتِكَ " فَقِيلَ لَهُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ عَفَّانُ : فَقَالَتْ لَهُ عَائِشَةُ : إِنَّكَ تُكْثِرُ أَنْ تَقُولَ : " يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ وَطَاعَتِكَ " قَالَ : " وَمَا يُؤْمِنُنِي , وَإِنَّمَا قُلُوبُ الْعِبَادِ بَيْنَ أُصْبُعَيْ الرَّحْمَنِ , إِنَّهُ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُقَلِّبَ قَلْبَ عَبْدٍ قَلَّبَهُ " ، قَالَ عَفَّانُ : بَيْنَ أُصْبُعَيْنِ مِنْ أَصَابِعِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ .
It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that there are some supplications which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say frequently: "O Turner of the hearts! Make my heart steadfast upon Your religion." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Why do you often say these supplications?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The heart of a person is between two fingers of Allah the Almighty; if He wills, He turns it aside, and if He wills, He keeps it straight."
