حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ , قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ , عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ , عَنْ عَائِشَةَ , أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا وَعِنْدَهَا امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ الْيَهُودِ , وَهِيَ تَقُولُ : أُشْعِرْتُ أَنَّكُمْ تُفْتَنُونَ فِي الْقُبُورِ ؟ فَارْتَاعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَالَ : " إِنَّمَا تُفْتَنُ يَهُوَدُ " , قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : فَلَبِثْنَا لَيَالِيَ , ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أُشْعِرْتُ أَنَّهُ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّكُمْ تُفْتَنُونَ فِي الْقُبُورِ " , وَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدُ يَسْتَعِيذُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ .
It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and a Jewish woman was sitting with me, and she was saying, "Do you know that you will be tested in your graves?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards us and said, "The Jews will be subjected to trial." After some time had passed, one day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me, "Do you know that revelation has come to me that you will be tested in your graves?" After that, I always heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave.
