حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ , عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ , أَخْبَرَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ , عَنْ عَائِشَةَ , أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهَا : " أَلَمْ تَرَيْ أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حِينَ بَنَوْا الْكَعْبَةَ اسْتَقْصَرُوا عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ؟ " فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , أَفَلَا تَرُدُّهَا عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ؟ فَقَالَ : " لَوْلَا حِدْثَانُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ " فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ : إِنْ كَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ سَمِعَتْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَلَا أَرَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَرَكَ اسْتِلَامَ الرُّكْنَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ يَلِيَانِ الْحِجْرَ إِلَّا أَنَّ الْبَيْتَ لَمْ يُتَمَّ عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ .
It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "Do you know that when your people rebuilt the Ka'bah, they reduced it from the foundations of Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him)?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Then why do you not return it to the foundation of Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If your people had not recently been in the time of disbelief, I would have done so." Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) heard this hadith and said, "By Allah, if Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) heard this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then I think that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not touch the two corners adjacent to the Hatim for this very reason, that the construction of the House of Allah was not completed on the foundations of Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him)."
