It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate in prayer: "O Allah! I seek refuge with You from sins and from debt." Once someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Why do you seek refuge from debt so frequently?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "When a person is afflicted with debt (and he is indebted), he tells lies when he speaks and breaks promises when he makes them."
