حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ , عَنْ دَاوُدَ , عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ , قَالَ : كُنْتُ عِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ , قَالَ : قُلْتُ أَلَيْسَ اللَّهُ يَقُولُ : وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ سورة التكوير آية 23 , وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَى سورة النجم آية 13 قَالَتْ : أَنَا أَوَّلُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْهُمَا , فَقَالَ : " إِنَّمَا ذَاكِ جِبْرِيلُ " , لَمْ يَرَهُ فِي صُورَتِهِ الَّتِي خُلِقَ عَلَيْهَا إِلَّا مَرَّتَيْنِ رَآهُ مُنْهَبِطًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ , سَادًّا عِظَمُ خَلْقِهِ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ .
Masruq says that once I was sitting reclining at the home of Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). I asked her, "Does Allah not say, 'Indeed, the Messenger saw him clearly at the edge of the sky' and that 'The Messenger saw him descending another time as well'?" She replied, "I was the first to ask the Prophet (peace be upon him) about this, and he said that it refers to Hazrat Jibreel (Gabriel), whom I saw in his true form only twice. Once, I saw him descending from the sky, and his great physical form filled the space between the sky and the earth."
