حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ , عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ الْعُقَيْلِيِّ , قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ ، عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِاللَّيْلِ ؟ فَقَالَتْ : " كَانَ يُصَلِّي لَيْلًا طَوِيلًا قَائِمًا , وَلَيْلًا طَوِيلًا قَاعِدًا , وَكَانَ إِذَا قَرَأَ قَائِمًا , رَكَعَ قَائِمًا , وَإِذَا قَرَأَ جَالِسًا , رَكَعَ جَالِسًا " .
Abdullah bin Shaqiq reports: I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the voluntary prayers of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so she said: In the night prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray for a long time and would sit for quite a while. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite, bow, and prostrate while standing, and he would also recite, bow, and prostrate while sitting.
