حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ , قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ , عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ , قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِعَائِشَةَ أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي قَاعِدًا ؟ قَالَتْ : " كَانَ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ طَوِيلًا قَاعِدًا , وَيُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ طَوِيلًا قَائِمًا , فَإِذَا قَرَأَ قَائِمًا رَكَعَ قَائِمًا , وَإِذَا قَرَأَ قَاعِدًا رَكَعَ قَاعِدًا " .
Abdullah bin Shaqiq (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the voluntary prayers of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so she said that in the night prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand for a long time and sit for quite a while; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite, bow, and prostrate while standing, and he would also recite, bow, and prostrate while sitting.
