حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ , عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ , عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ أَبَا جَهْمِ بْنِ حُذَيْفَةَ مُصَدِّقًا فَلَاجَهُ رَجُلٌ فِي صَدَقَتِهِ , فَضَرَبَهُ أَبُو جَهْمٍ فَشَجَّهُ , فَأَتَوْا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا : الْقَوَدَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَكُمْ كَذَا وَكَذَا " , فَلَمْ يَرْضَوْا , قَالَ : " فَلَكُمْ كَذَا وَكَذَا " , فَلَمْ يَرْضَوْا , قَالَ : " فَلَكُمْ كَذَا وَكَذَا " , فَرَضُوا , فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنِّي خَاطِبٌ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَمُخْبِرُهُمْ بِرِضَاكُمْ " , قَالُوا : نَعَمْ , فَخَطَبَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ اللَّيْثِيِّينَ أَتَوْنِي يُرِيدُونَ الْقَوَدَ , فَعَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَرَضُوا , أرَضِيتُمْ ؟ " , قَالُوا : لَا , فَهَمَّ الْمُهَاجِرُونَ بِهِمْ , فَأَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَكُفُّوا , فَكَفُّوا , ثُمَّ دَعَاهُمْ فَزَادَهُمْ , وَقَالَ : " أَرَضِيتُمْ ؟ " , قَالُوا : نَعَمْ , قَالَ : " فَإِنِّي خَاطِبٌ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَمُخْبِرُهُمْ بِرِضَاكُمْ " , قَالُوا : نَعَمْ , فَخَطَبَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَرَضِيتُمْ ؟ " , قَالُوا : نَعَمْ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Abu Juham bin Hudhaifah to a region to collect zakat. There, a man argued with Abu Juham regarding the payment of zakat. Abu Juham struck him and he was injured. The people of that tribe came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Grant us retribution (qisas)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Leave your demand for retribution, I will give you such-and-such wealth." But they were not satisfied. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) increased the amount, but still they were not satisfied. However, when he increased it a third time, they agreed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Shall I inform the people about your consent?" They said, "Yes, certainly." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon and said, "The people of this tribe came to me with a request for retribution. I have offered them such-and-such wealth and they have agreed." Then he asked them, "Are you satisfied?" They denied it. At this, the Muhajireen became very angry, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered them to stop, and they stopped. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called them and increased the amount further and said, "Are you satisfied now?" They said, "Yes!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Shall I inform the people about your consent?" They said, "Yes, certainly." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon and asked them, "Are you satisfied?" They said, "Yes!"
