حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ , حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ , عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ , عَنْ عَائِشَةَ , قَالَتْ : " مَا ضَرَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدِهِ خَادِمًا لَهُ قَطُّ , وَلَا امْرَأَةً , وَلَا ضَرَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدِهِ شَيْئًا قَطُّ , إِلَّا أَنْ يُجَاهِدَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ , وَلَا خُيِّرَ بَيْنَ أَمْرَيْنِ قَطُّ إِلَّا كَانَ أَحَبَّهُمَا إِلَيْهِ أَيْسَرُهُمَا حَتَّى يَكُونَ إِثْمًا , فَإِذَا كَانَ إِثْمًا كَانَ أَبْعَدَ النَّاسِ مِنَ الْإِثْمِ , وَلَا انْتَقَمَ لِنَفْسِهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ يُؤْتَى إِلَيْهِ حَتَّى تُنْتَهَكَ حُرُمَاتُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ , فَيَكُونَ هُوَ يَنْتَقِمُ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never struck any servant or any wife, nor did he ever hit anyone with his own hand except when he was fighting in the way of Allah. If anyone showed disrespect towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he never took revenge for himself, but if the sanctities of Allah were violated, he would take revenge for the sake of Allah. And whenever two options were presented before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and one of them was easier, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would choose the easier one, unless it was a sin, for if it was a sin, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would be the farthest from it compared to other people.
