قَالَ قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ : فَأَخْبَرَنِي حَمْزَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ , عَنْ عَائِشَةَ , لَمَّا دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْتِي , قَالَ : " مُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ " , قَالَتْ : فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ رَجُلٌ رَقِيقٌ , إِذَا قَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يَمْلِكُ دَمْعَهُ , فَلَوْ أَمَرْتَ غَيْرَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ , قَالَتْ : وَاللَّهِ مَا بِي إِلَّا كَرَاهِيَةُ أَنْ يَتَشَاءَمَ النَّاسُ بِأَوَّلِ مَنْ يَقُومُ فِي مَقَامِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَتْ فَرَاجَعْتُهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا , فَقَالَ : " لِيُصَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ , فَإِنَّكُنَّ صَوَاحِبُ يُوسُفَ " .
Narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to my house, he said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." Hazrat Aisha submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Abu Bakr is a soft-hearted man; he will not be able to control his tears, because whenever Abu Bakr recites the Holy Qur'an, he starts weeping." And I said this only so that people would not start saying about Abu Bakr that he was the first man to stand in the place of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and thus become sinful. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." When I repeated it, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the same order and said, "You are like the women who were infatuated with Yusuf (Joseph) (who concealed something in their hearts and expressed something else with their tongues)."
