حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ , عَنْ هِشَامٍ , عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ , عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ , قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَتْ : " كَانَ يُطِيلُ الصَّلَاةَ قَائِمًا وَقَاعِدًا , وَكَانَ إِذَا صَلَّى قَائِمًا , رَكَعَ قَائِمًا , وَإِذَا صَلَّى قَاعِدًا , رَكَعَ قَاعِدًا " , وَسَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ صِيَامِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ فَقَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ قَدْ صَامَ , قَدْ صَامَ , قَدْ صَامَ , وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ قَدْ أَفْطَرَ , قَدْ أَفْطَرَ , قَدْ أَفْطَرَ , وَلَمْ يَصُمْ شَهْرًا تَامًّا مُنْذُ أَتَى الْمَدِينَةَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ " .
Abdullah bin Shaqiq reports: I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the voluntary prayers of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She replied: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer long prayers both standing and sitting. When he prayed standing, he would also bow (ruku) standing, and when he prayed sitting, he would also bow sitting. Then I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the voluntary fasts of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: Sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would fast so much that we would talk about it, and sometimes he would leave fasting to the extent that we would talk about it. And after coming to Madinah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not fast the entire month in any month except Ramadan.
