حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ , عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ , قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ , أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَتْ تَقُولُ : " مَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُسَبِّحُ سُبْحَةَ الضُّحَى , وَكَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ تُسَبِّحُهَا , وَكَانَتْ تَقُولُ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَرَكَ كَثِيرًا مِنَ الْعَمَلِ خَشْيَةَ أَنْ يَسْتَنَّ النَّاسُ بِهِ فَيُفْرَضَ عَلَيْهِمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never performed the Duha prayer, but she used to perform it and said that sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), despite loving a certain deed, would abandon it lest people start acting upon it and it becomes obligatory upon them (and then they might not be able to do it). Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) preferred that there be more ease in the obligations upon the people.
