حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِعَائِشَةَ : أَخْبِرِينِي عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : فَقالْتُ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنَامُ أَوَّلَهُ وَيَقُومُ آخِرَهُ ، فَإِذَا قَامَ تَوَضَّأَ ، وَصَلَّى مَا قَضَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَهُ ، فَإِنْ كَانَ بِهِ حَاجَةٌ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ ، أَتَى أَهْلَهُ ، وَإِلَّا مَالَ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ ، فَإِنْ كَانَ أَتَى أَهْلَهُ ، نَامَ كَهَيْئَتِهِ ، لَمْ يَمَسَّ مَاءً ، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ أَوَّلِ الْأَذَانِ ، وَثَبَ وَاللَّهِ مَا قَالَتْ : قَامَ وَإِنْ كَانَ جُنُبًا ، أَفَاضَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَاءَ وَاللَّهِ مَا قَالَتْ : اغْتَسَلَ وَإلَا تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ " .
Aswad bin Yazid was informed by Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) regarding the night prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sleep in the early part of the night and wake up in the last part of the night. Then, if he felt a need towards his wife, he would fulfill his need, then before touching water, he would stand up. When the first call to prayer was given, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would go quickly and pour water over his body, and if he was not in a state of major impurity, he would only perform the ablution for prayer, and he would offer two rak'ahs and proceed towards the mosque.
