Hadith 25754

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : ذُكِرَ لَهَا حَدِيثُ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ الْمَيِّتَ يُعَذَّبُ بِبُكَاءِ الْحَيِّ . قَالَتْ : وَهِلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ كَمَا وَهِلَ يَوْمَ قَلِيبِ بَدْرٍ ، إِنَّمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّهُ لَيُعَذَّبُ وَأَهْلُهُ يَبْكُونَ عَلَيْهِ " يَعْنِي الْكَافِرَ .
Someone mentioned to Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the deceased is being punished because of the weeping of his family members. Hazrat Aisha said that he is mistaken; in fact, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said this regarding a disbeliever, that at that time he is being punished and his family is weeping over him.
