Amr bin Ghalib says that once I, Ammar, and Ashtar went to the service of Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). Ammar said, "Mother!" She replied, "I am not your mother." He said, "By Allah, you are my mother even if you do not like this." She asked, "Who is with you?" Ammar informed her, "This is Ashtar." She said, "Are you the one who tried to kill my nephew?" Ashtar said, "Yes! I intended to do so, and he also intended the same." She said, "If you had done so, you would never have succeeded, and I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that it is not permissible to shed the blood of a Muslim except for one of three reasons: committing adultery despite being married, becoming a disbeliever after accepting Islam, or killing a person for which he is killed in retaliation."
