Hadith 257

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ . وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَن ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ زُبَيْدٍ الْيَامِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " صَلَاةُ السَّفَرِ رَكْعَتَانِ ، وَصَلَاةُ الْأَضْحَى رَكْعَتَانِ ، وَصَلَاةُ الْفِطْرِ رَكْعَتَانِ ، وَصَلَاةُ الْجُمُعَةِ رَكْعَتَانِ ، تَمَامٌ غَيْرُ قَصْرٍ ، عَلَى لِسَانِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " . قَالَ سُفْيَانُ : وَقَالَ زُبَيْدٌ مَرَّةً : أُرَاهُ عَنْ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ : عَلَى غَيْرِ وَجْهِ الشَّكِّ ، وقَالَ يَزِيد يَعْنِي ُابْنَ هَارُونَ : ابْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ .
Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the prayer during travel is two rak‘ahs, each of the two ‘Eids is two rak‘ahs, and Jumu‘ah is also two rak‘ahs, and all these prayers are complete; there is no shortening in any of them, as has been pronounced by the tongue of Prophethood.
