Hadith 25670

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِنَّكُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ إِلَيَّ ، وَلَعَلَّ بَعْضَكُمْ أَلْحَنُ بِحُجَّتِهِ مِنْ بَعْضٍ ، وَإِنَّمَا أَقْضِي لَهُ بِمَا يَقُولُ ، فَمَنْ قَضَيْتُ لَهُ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ حَقِّ أَخِيهِ ، بِقَوْلِهِ فَإِنَّمَا أَقْطَعُ لَهُ قِطْعَةً مِنَ النَّارِ ، فَلَا يَأْخُذْهَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: You bring your disputes to me, and it is possible that one of you may present his argument with such eloquence and clarity compared to the other that I may decide in his favor based on his argument. (Therefore, remember!) If I accept someone's statement and decide in his favor regarding his brother's right, then understand that I am cutting a piece of fire for him and giving it to him, so he should not take it.
