Bahz narrated to us, he said: Ibrahim ibn Sa’d narrated to me, from Salih—Bahz said: I said to him, “Ibn Kaysan?” He said: Yes—from Ibn Shihab, he said: ‘Urwah ibn al-Zubayr, Sa’id ibn al-Musayyab, ‘Alqamah ibn Waqqas, and ‘Ubaydullah ibn ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Utbah narrated to me from Aisha, the wife of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding when the people of the slander said what they said to her, and Allah declared her innocent. All of them narrated to me a portion of her narration, and some of them were more precise in her narration than others, and more established in relating it in detail. I have memorized from each man among them the narration he related to me from Aisha, and some of their narrations confirm others, even if some of them were more precise than others. They said: Aisha said: Whenever the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, intended to travel, he would cast lots among his wives, and whichever of them the lot fell upon, he would take her with him. Then he mentioned the narration, except that he said: He announced the night of departure, so I got up when they announced the departure. And he said: From the valley of Dhafar. And he said: They would be made ready. And he said: So I headed to my place. And he said: ‘Urwah said: I was informed that it was being spread and talked about in his presence, and he would acknowledge it and listen to it and seek more of it. And ‘Urwah said: Also, none of the people of the slander were named except Hassaan ibn Thabit, Mistah ibn Uthathah, and Hamnah bint Jahsh, among other people whom I do not know, except that they were a group, as Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said. And the chief among them, it was said, was with ‘Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul. ‘Urwah said: And Aisha used to dislike that Hassaan be insulted in her presence, and she would say: He is the one who said: “Indeed, my father and his father and my honor are a protection for the honor of Muhammad from you.” And she said: Our affair is the affair of the earliest Arabs in keeping away (from such things). And he said: She had co-wives. And he said: By what he knows of the innocence of his family. And he said: Then the domesticated animal would come and eat it. And he said: Even if he was from our brothers, the Khazraj. And he said: Then a man from the Khazraj stood up, and the mother of Hassaan was his paternal cousin from his clan, and he was Sa’d ibn ‘Ubadah, and he was the chief of the Khazraj. She said: And before that he was a righteous man, but zeal carried him away. And he said: My tears dried up. And he said: Her sister Hamnah began to fight for her. And ‘Urwah said: Aisha said: By Allah, the man about whom what was said was said, would say: “Glory be to Allah! By Him in Whose hand is my soul, I have never uncovered the private parts of a woman.” She said: Then after that he was killed in the path of Allah as a martyr.
