حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ لِلْأَسْوَدِ حَدِّثْنِي عَنْ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا فَإِنَّهَا كَانَتْ تُفْضِي إِلَيْكَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَتْنِي أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهَا : " لَوْلَا أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حَدِيثٌ عَهْدُهُمْ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ لَهَدَمْتُ الْكَعْبَةَ ثُمَّ لَجَعَلْتُ لَهَا بَابَيْنِ " . فَلَمَّا مَلَكَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ هَدَمَهَا ، وَجَعَلَ لَهَا بَابَيْنِ.
Aswad says that once Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me, "Narrate to me a hadith which Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated only to you, because she used to narrate many things only to you and not to the general people." He says, "I said to him that she narrated to me a hadith, the first part of which I remember: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'If your people had not been close to the time of ignorance, I would have demolished the Ka'bah and brought it down to the level of the ground and made two doors for it.'" Accordingly, after becoming caliph, Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) did exactly that.
