حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نِيارٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ إِلَى بَدْرٍ ، فَتَبِعَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ، فَلَحِقَهُ عِنْدَ الْجَمْرَةِ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَتْبَعَكَ وَأُصِيبَ مَعَكَ ، قَالَ : " تُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَرَسُولِهِ ؟ " قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ : " ارْجِعْ فَلَنْ نَسْتَعِينَ بِمُشْرِكٍ " . قَالَ : ثُمَّ لَحِقَهُ عِنْدَ الشَّجَرَةِ ، فَفَرِحَ بِذَاكَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكَانَ لَهُ قُوَّةٌ وَجَلَدٌ ، فَقَالَ : جِئْتُ لِأَتْبَعَكَ وَأُصِيبَ مَعَكَ . قَالَ : " تُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ؟ " قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ : " ارْجِعْ فَلَنْ أَسْتَعِينَ بِمُشْرِكٍ " . قَالَ : ثُمَّ لَحِقَهُ حِينَ ظَهَرَ عَلَى الْبَيْدَاءِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ، قَالَ : " تُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ؟ " قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : فَخَرَجَ بِهِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for the Battle of Badr, a man started following the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and caught up with him at Jamrah. He said, "I am going to participate in the battle with you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "Do you believe in Allah and His Messenger?" He said, "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then we do not take help from any polytheist." He repeated the same thing again, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the same question. This time he replied in the affirmative, and then he set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
