It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that during the illness of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), some people came to visit him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in prayer while sitting, and the people began to pray standing. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured for them to sit, and after finishing the prayer, he said: "The Imam is appointed so that he may be followed. When he bows, you should also bow; when he raises his head, you should also raise your heads; and when he prays sitting, you should also pray sitting."
