حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَصْبَغُ ، عَنْ ثَوْرِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي رَبِيعَةُ الْجُرَشِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ ، فَقُلْتُ : مَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ؟ وَبِمَ كَانَ يَسْتَفْتِحُ ؟ قَالَتْ : كَانَ يُكَبِّرُ عَشْرًا وَيُسَبِّحُ عَشْرًا ، وَيُهَلِّلُ عَشْرًا ، وَيَسْتَغْفِرُ عَشْرًا ، وَيَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَاهْدِنِي وَارْزُقْنِي " عَشْرًا ، وَيَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الضِّيقِ يَوْمَ الْحِسَابِ " عَشْرًا .
Rabi’ah Jurashi reports that once I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) what supplication the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite when he woke up at night and with what he would begin. She replied that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say takbeer ten times, alhamdulillah ten times, subhanAllah ten times, la ilaha illallah ten times, and astaghfirullah ten times. Then, the second time, he would recite this supplication: O Allah! Forgive me, grant me guidance, and provide me sustenance. And ten times he would recite this supplication: O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the distress of the Day of Reckoning.
