It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a Jewish woman came to my door and, while asking for food, said, "Feed me, may Allah protect you from the trial of Dajjal and the punishment of the grave." I kept her with me until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came. I said to him, "O Messenger of Allah! What is this Jewish woman saying?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "What is she saying?" I said, "She is saying, 'May Allah protect you from the trial of Dajjal and the punishment of the grave.'" So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, spread his hands, and began to supplicate to Allah for protection from the trial of Dajjal and the punishment of the grave. Then he said, "As for the trial of Dajjal, there has not been any prophet who did not warn his nation about him, and I will warn you about him in such a way that no prophet before me has warned his nation. Know that he will be one-eyed, and Allah, the Exalted, cannot be one-eyed. Between his two eyes will be written 'Kafir' (disbeliever), which every believer will read. As for the trial of the grave, you will be tested through me, and you will be asked about me. If the deceased is a righteous person, the angels will make him sit in his grave in such a way that he will have no fear or anxiety. Then he will be asked, 'In what religion did you spend your life?' He will say, 'In Islam.' He will be asked, 'Who was the man who was among you?' He will say, 'Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who came to us with clear signs from Allah, and we affirmed him.' Then a door to Hell will be opened for him and it will be said, 'If you had disbelieved in your Lord, this would have been your abode, but since you believed, your abode is elsewhere.' Then a door to Paradise will be opened for him, and when he tries to get up and enter Paradise, the angel will tell him to remain at ease, and his grave will be made spacious for him. But if he is an evil person, when the angel asks him, 'What do you say about this man?' he will reply, 'I do not know, I only heard people saying something.' The angel will say, 'You neither knew nor recited nor were guided.' Then a door to Paradise will be opened for him, and the angel will say, 'If you had believed in your Lord, this would have been your abode, but since you disbelieved, you were in doubt, you died in this state and will be raised in this state (InshaAllah).' Then he will be punished, and thus Allah has changed your abode from here, and a door to Hell will be opened for him."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a person is near death, angels come to him. If he is a righteous person, they say to him, 'O pure soul, who resided in a pure body, come out, come out praiseworthy, and receive the glad tidings of rest and provision and of meeting a Lord who is not angry with you.' These words are repeated to him until his soul departs. Then he is taken up to the heavens, the door is knocked, and a voice asks, 'Who is it?' It is replied, 'So-and-so.' The inhabitants of the heavens say, 'Welcome to the pure soul who resided in a pure body! Enter praiseworthy, and receive the glad tidings of rest and provision and of meeting a Lord who is not angry with you.' These words are said to him at every heaven until he is taken to the heaven where the Lord of the worlds Himself is present.

And if he is a sinful person, the angels say, 'O wicked soul, who resided in a wicked body, come out, come out blameworthy, and receive the tidings of boiling water and thorny food, and other kinds of punishments.' These words are repeated to him until his soul departs. The angels then ascend with him to the heavens and knock on the door. It is asked, 'Who is it?' It is said, 'So-and-so.' The reply comes, 'There is no welcome for this wicked soul who resided in a wicked body. Return blameworthy as you came; the doors of the heavens will not be opened for you.' Thus, he returns from the heavens and goes back into the grave.

Then the righteous person is made to sit in his grave, and all the same words are said to him as were said the first time. The sinful person is also made to sit in his grave, and the same is said to him as was said before."
