حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا
هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ
عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ
عَائِشَةَ : أَنَّ نَاسًا كَانُوا يَتَعَبَّدُونَ عِبَادَةً شَدِيدَةً ، فَنَهَاهُمْ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " وَاللَّهِ
إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، وَأَخْشَاكُمْ لَهُ " . وَكَانَ يَقُولُ : " عَلَيْكُمْ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ ، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَا يَمَلُّ حَتَّى تَمَلُّوا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that some people used to endure great hardship in worship. The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade them, saying: "By Allah, I know Allah more than all of you and I fear Him more than all of you." And he used to say: "Take upon yourselves only as much as you are able to do, for Allah will not tire, but you will tire."
