حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ مَوْلَى بَنِي أَسَدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُصَلِّي لَيْلًا طَوِيلًا قَائِمًا ، وَلَيْلًا طَوِيلًا جَالِسًا " ، قُلْتُ : فَكَيْفَ كَانَ يَصْنَعُ ؟ قَالَتْ : " كَانَ إِذَا قَرَأَ قَائِمًا رَكَعَ قَائِمًا ، وَإِذَا قَرَأَ جَالِسًا رَكَعَ جَالِسًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that in the night prayer, the Prophet (peace be upon him) would stand for a long time and would also sit for quite a while. The Prophet (peace be upon him) would recite, bow, and prostrate both while standing and sitting.
