حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ : لَا يُفْطِرُ ، وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ : لَا يَصُومُ ، وَمَا اسْتَكْمَلَ صِيَامَ شَهْرٍ قَطُّ إِلَّا رَمَضَانَ ، وَمَا رَأَيْتُهُ فِي شَهْرٍ قَطُّ أَكْثَرَ صِيَامًا مِنْهُ فِي شَعْبَانَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that sometimes the Prophet (peace be upon him) would fast so much that we would say, "Now the Prophet (peace be upon him) will continue to fast," and sometimes he would leave off fasting so much that we would say, "Now the Prophet (peace be upon him) will continue to leave off fasting." And I have not seen the Prophet (peace be upon him) fast in any month as much as I saw him fast in Sha'ban; the Prophet (peace be upon him) would fast almost the entire month, leaving only a few days.
