Once, Sa’d bin Hisham came to Umm al-Mu’minin Hazrat Aisha and asked her about the prayer of the Prophet (peace be upon him). She said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to pray eight rak’ahs at night and would make the ninth rak’ah witr, and he would pray two rak’ahs sitting. Hazrat Aisha also mentioned ablution, saying that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) would wake up for prayer, he would order water for ablution and a miswak to be brought. When the blessed body of the Prophet (peace be upon him) became heavy, he would pray six rak’ahs and make the seventh witr, and he would pray two rak’ahs sitting, and continued in this manner until his passing. I asked, “I want to ask you about seclusion; what is your opinion on it?” Hazrat Aisha said, “Do not do so, because have you not heard Allah Almighty say: ‘We sent messengers before you and made for them wives and offspring’?” Therefore, do not become secluded. So he left from there and reached Basra, and after a short time set out towards “Makran” and was martyred there with the best of deeds.
