حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ ، قالَ : فَحَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، قَالَ : قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ , وَأَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُرْوَةَ يَقُولُ : قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : سَأَلَ أُنَاسٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْكُهَّانِ ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَيْسُوا بِشَيْءٍ " . فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّهُمْ يُحَدِّثُونَ أَحْيَانًا بِالشَّيْءِ يَكُونُ حَقًّا ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تِلْكَ الْكَلِمَةُ مِنَ الْحَقِّ يَخْطَفُهَا الْجِنِّيُّ ، فَيُقِرُّهَا فِي أُذُنِ وَلِيِّهِ قَرَّ الدَّجَاجَةِ ، فَيَخْلِطُونَ فِيهَا أَكْثَرَ مِنْ مِئَةِ كَذْبَةٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that once some people asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about "soothsayers." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "They have no reality." The people said, "O Messenger of Allah! Sometimes what they say turns out to be true?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "The statement that turns out to be true is something that a jinn snatches by overhearing from the angels, then he conveys it into the ear of his companion like the sound of a rooster, and then the soothsayer mixes more than a hundred lies with it and narrates it further."
