حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبٌ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : وَأَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتْ : " وَاللَّهِ مَا سَبَّحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُبْحَةَ الضُّحَى قَطُّ " ، وَإِنِّي لَأُسَبِّحُهَا ، وَقَالَتْ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " يَتْرُكُ الْعَمَلَ وَهُوَ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَعْمَلَهُ ، خَشْيَةَ أَنْ يَسْتَنَّ بِهِ النَّاسُ فَيُفْرَضُ عَلَيْهِمْ ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُحِبُّ مَا خَفَّ عَلَى النَّاسِ مِنَ الْفَرَائِضِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that by Allah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never performed the Duha prayer, but I do perform this prayer. She also said that sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would abandon a deed despite loving it, only because he feared that people might start acting upon it and as a result, it would become obligatory upon them (and then they might not be able to do it, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) preferred that there be ease in the obligations upon the people).
