It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Umm Habibah bint Jahsh, "who was married to Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf," suffered from continuous bleeding (istihada) for seven years. She complained about this illness to the Prophet (peace be upon him), so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "This is not the blood of the regular (menstrual) days, rather it is blood from a vein. Therefore, when the regular days come, leave the prayer, and when they end, perform ghusl and then offer prayer." Hazrat Aisha says that then she used to perform ghusl for every prayer and would sit in the tub of her sister Zainab Jahsh, in which the redness of the blood would overpower the color of the water.
