It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to marry off any of his daughters, he would go and sit behind her curtain and say, "Such and such man has mentioned such and such woman," and he would mention the name of that daughter and the man who wished to marry her. If she remained silent, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would arrange her marriage. But if she disliked the proposal, she would start adjusting her curtain, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not arrange her marriage.
