It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when this verse was revealed: "You may defer whom you will of them, and take to yourself whom you will..." even then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek permission; on the day of any of us whose turn it was. Umrah says that I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), "What did you say to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" She replied, "I used to say to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! If this matter is in my control, then I do not wish to give preference to anyone over you."
