Amr bin Ghalib says that once I, Ammar, and Ashtar went to the service of Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). Ammar said, "Mother! Peace be upon you." She replied, "Peace be upon the one who follows guidance." Ammar greeted her two or three times and then said, "By Allah, you are my mother even if you do not like it." She asked, "Who is with you?" Ammar replied, "This is Ashtar." She said, "Are you the one who tried to kill my nephew?" Ashtar said, "Yes! I intended to do so, and he also intended the same." She said, "If you had done so, you would never have succeeded. And O Ammar! Did you or I not hear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that it is not permissible to shed the blood of a Muslim except for one of three reasons: committing adultery after being married, becoming a disbeliever after accepting Islam, or killing a person for which he is killed in retaliation?"
